“12-Hour Fasting for 7 Days” Challenge

The Premise:

For 7 days straight, your only job is to go wait 12 hours between your last bite of food in the evening and your bite bite of food the following morning

Wait… but why?

First, thanks your asking.

I’m always looking for things that make me FEEL better first and foremost.

This is one of them.

Okay, Travis, why does this make you feel better?

My intuition says it’s because…

  1. I get better sleep (eating too close to bedtime disrupts sleep)

  2. It gives my poor, overworked gut some much needed R&R

  3. I give my body a longer break from the nearly constant flow of insulin which reduces inflammation among other things

  4. I also most likely take in less total calories which is nearly always a good thing

  5. More importantly, I’m taking in less junk food calories (because the food I would have otherwise eaten late at night

  6. This all leads to me feeling “lighter” in the morning

  7. I’m more likely to feel real hunger for a good breakfast as opposed to just feeling a “craving” for a piece of toast or some nonsense like a sugary granola bar

Other possible goodness:

  1. You might lose a couple pounds

  2. You might be inspired to try a longer fast which has a ton of benefits

  3. Better sleep has a positive snowball effect on …

>productivity
>sense of well being
>energy
>better workouts
>less mood swings
>better food choices
>more willpower
>more patience

…all because I simply made sure I wait 12 hours between meals which is pretty, pretty, pretty good if you ask me.

Ready for your to-do list?

  1. Pick a starting day

  2. Eat your last bite of food and immediately set a 12-hour timer on your phone

  3. Refrain from eating (or drinking) any calories until your timer goes off

  4. Do that for 7 days straight

  5. Feel great

  6. Feel empowered to try longer bouts of fasting

  7. Tell your mom how healthy you are now so she can be proud of you
